Learning to dance by phone and synching up
videos...

Back
in the mid-nineties when I had newly discovered American Tribal
Style (ATS) belly dance*, I
was so excited that I'd phone my dance pal Is'Dihara,
we'd synch up our Fat
Chance Belly Dance (FCBD) videos,
and we'd chatter on for hours about what we saw on the tape
and
the possibilities we
saw dawning on our dance horizons.
Invariably,
one of us would say, "Did you see that?"
Quickly we'd rewind to the segment of tape,
eager anticipation filling our respective living rooms. We'd
visually dissect the costuming. We'd soak up the knowledge
like sponges. We couldn't get enough!
* The
dance form had been around much, much longer, but information
takes time to filter from the west coast to the east.
The infamous
shower curtain costume...
I thrive on costuming challenges. Once I even
made a costume out of my shower curtain! It looks good, doesn't
it?
