Saturday Oct. 26, 2002 Loudoun Country Day School 237 Fairview St NW, Leesburg, VA Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter offers a wide range of direct services to more than 1,500 Loudoun County, Virginia citizens annually. Through its programs, LAWS seeks to empower survivors of personal violence so that they may live lives free from fear, anxiety, and danger. All LAWS services are confidential and free of charge. LAWS serves our communities directly with outreach programs that improve all our lives! Please show your support by attending this event. Morning and afternoon dance classes: 9-10 am Registration, shopping, networking 10-11:30 Introduction to Middle Eastern Dance taught by Katayoun: Popularly known as "belly dance", learn to isolate and articulate the hips and move them in time to the exciting rhythms of Middle Eastern music. A gentle introduction for the absolute beginner, and a solid review for those with experience. Cultural information will be incorporated. 11:30-1:00 Shopping, lunch -There are many fast food and full service restaurants within a short drive, or you may choose to bring your lunch. 1:00-2:30 Introduction to Flamenco taught by Bambi Nieto. Learn the basics of this passionate and empowering dance from Andalusia in Southern Spain with roots in Indian, Arabic, and Spanish cultures. No experience required. 2:30-4:00 Introduction to American Tribal Style Belly Dance (ATS) and Yoga taught by Wendy Youssef: (Prerequisite: Previous dance experience or Introductory class with Katayoun). Begin this inner awakening dance with a gentle Yoga/Chakra warm up. Return to community with dancing that takes us back to our tribal years. ATS is not only a "new age" dance trend, but also a way to return to sister hood thus discovering our inner purpose and spirit. ATS promotes female camaraderie and dances in a group improvisational format. Improvisational circle dancing, 2 and 3 person formations, and chorus lines. Yogic cool down utilizing cooling breathing techniques and cooling stretches for the body, mind, and spirit. 7pm, LAWS Benefit Show: Performances by Bambi and Hips Accepted, Wendy Youssef and Troupe Arabesque, Katayoun and Desert Doves, plus special guest performers. The show features music and dance inspired by the broad spectrum of cultural influences on the journey of women. This family-oriented evening brings together artists from throughout the DC metro area, to honor the strength, beauty and power of the human spirit!
